I’ve been searching lately for some healthy, easy desserts that still feel like a treat.
Below you will find a recipe for slowly-steamed apples, served with a bit of ground cinnamon, honey, and chopped pistachios.
As the apples steam and soften, the natural sugars become more concentrated in flavor.
The following recipe makes two steamed apples.
Steamed Apples with Cinnamon and Honey
Ingredients
- 2 whole Honeycrisp apples (peeled)
- 3 Tbsp water
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp pistachios (roughly chopped)
- 2 Tbsp honey
Instructions
- Peel the apples, and place them into a small soup pot with a few Tablespoons of water.
- Add a lid, and increase the heat to medium-low.
- When the water begins to steam, reduce the heat to low.
- Continue to steam the apples with a lid for roughly thirty minutes, or until the apples are completely softened.
- Carefully remove the hot apples from the pot, and add each one to a serving plate.
- Dust the outside of each apple with an incredibly light sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
- Add a few Tablespoons of chopped pistachios on top, in addition to a drizzle of honey.
- Serve warm.
Notes
For an even more economical version, simply omit the pistachios!
You can use a variety of apples here. If you are looking for a more acidic and tart dessert, try using Granny Smith apples.
