I haven’t worked on many waffle recipes, mostly because I’d never owned a waffle iron until recently. I worked on a project for a client who is opening a breakfast café, where they asked to include some waffle options. It was a great excuse to buy a new piece of equipment!
I discovered a great classic waffle recipe that comes together pretty easily. I realized that part of the reason I love waffles so much is that they include a bunch of melted butter in the batter…

Classic Sunday Morning Waffles
Ingredients
- 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
 - 1 Tbsp baking powder
 - 2 Tbsp white granulated sugar
 - ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
 - A tiny sprinkle of ground cinnamon
 - 3 whole eggs
 - 12 Tbsp 1.5 sticks butter, melted
 - 1.5 cups whole milk

Instructions
- Mix together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, Kosher salt, and ground cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
 - In a smaller bowl, whisk together the whole eggs, melted butter, and whole milk.
 - Pour the liquid mixture into the larger bowl with the dry ingredients, and gently whisk to combine.
 - *The batter doesn’t need to be completely smooth at this stage, avoid overmixing. You can fold in items like toasted chopped nuts at this stage, if you want!
 - Cook your waffles according to the instructions on your waffle iron, making sure to lightly spray the top and bottom cooking surfaces of the waffle iron with a light layer of cooking spray before adding about ½ cup of batter to the oiled surface.
 - Spread the waffle batter to within ¼ inch of the edge of the waffle iron, and then gently close the waffle iron and cook the waffle until perfectly golden-brown.
 - Serve the waffles warm, with pats of softened butter, warm maple syrup, and maybe some homemade whipped cream!
