Crispy on the outside. Ooey, gooey on the inside, fried mozzarella sticks are irresistible, especially if you dip them in marinara sauce. It’s an easy and pleasing appetizer for nearly any occasion.
If you have a deep fryer, you’ll get the best results. Use vegetable oil for frying. Don’t crowd the oil. Three to four sticks at a time is enough. Finally, for success, try to make your cheese slices even so all the batches finish simultaneously.
Muchable Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients
- 1 lb whole milk mozzarella block
- ⅔ c flour
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3 eggs
- 1 c bread crumbs (seasoned)
- 3 c Vegetable oil (peanut oil is also a good choice)
Instructions
- Set your fryer for 350F
- You are going to need three bowls
- Put the flour, garlic, and onion in one bowl
- Beat the eggs in the second bowl
- Bread crumbs go in the third bowl
- Cut the cheese into ½” thick pieces
- Cover each stick in flour
- Tap off any excess
- Now, dip the stick into the egg
- Coat well and wait for excess to drip off
- Dip it again in flour (this makes it really crunchy), followed by the beaten eggs
- Roll the sticks in the bread crumbs. Note that you can use a baking pan for this, where you spread the crumbs rather than trying to get them fully coated in a bowl.
- Put the sticks on a flat surface
- Freeze for 45 minutes (this keeps the cheese inside!)
- Meanwhile, put out a plate covered with paper towels and another for service.
- Once the heat is up to temperature, fry them in batches until they’re golden brown.
- Turn them using tongues so the oil gets to all sides.
- They should be done in about 75 seconds (if the cheese starts coming out, remove it immediately).
- Transfer the sticks onto the paper towels to get rid of excess oil.
- Place them on your serving plate and you’re ready to go.
