Brie with Honey

When the holidays are around the corner, the last thing you want in an appetizer is something complex that takes hours to prepare. That’s the beauty of this recipe. You have just a few ingredients and can put the whole thing together in about 15 minutes. It’s a crowd-pleaser and looks lovely on the table, too.
If you’re not familiar with brie, it’s soft and creamy. It has a buttery consistency and a rind that tastes of mild mushrooms. Traditionally brie is made from cow’s milk, but there are also goat milk varieties on the market.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Brie
  • ¼ cup orange blossom or clover honey
  • cup chopped nuts (your choice)
  • 1 tbs orange zest
  • Several cranberries (garnish only)
  • Pine twigs (optional)
  • Bread or crackers

Instructions

  • Set your oven for 350 degrees F.
  • Once at full temperature, bake the brie on a sheet pan for 10 minutes. You want it soft, not runny.
  • Remove and cool.
  • Warm the honey
  • Stir in your nuts and orange zest
  • Spoon the topping over the brie.
  • Place a few cranberries on top and pine twigs around it for a lovely presentation.
  • Serve with crusty bread (like a baguette) or rye crackers.

Notes

Tip: Don’t skimp by using inexpensive honey. You want a full-bodied flavor. If there’s a honeycomb, all the better.
