Bitter Cointreau Cocktail

This cocktail recipe uses more Angostura bitters than you might be used to seeing. If you like bitters, and you like Cointreau, this is a great drink for you.
The recipe below makes a single cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Cointreau
  • ¾ oz freshly-squeezed lemon juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • ½ oz Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash of orange blossom water
  • 1 egg white
  • 1.5 oz club soda
  • 1 Twist of lemon, (as garnish)

Instructions

  • Chill a glass in the freezer.
  • Combine the Cointreau, lemon juice, simple syrup, Angostura bitters, orange blossom water, and the egg white to a dry shaker tin.
  • Shake without ice for 60 seconds.
  • Add ice and shake for an additional 30 seconds.
  • Strain and pour into glass.
  • Top cocktail with club soda.
  • Garnish with a twist of lemon.

Notes

Shaking the cocktail without ice first allows for the egg white to begin to get foamy before the cocktail gets too watered-down. You have to shake for slightly longer than you might expect if you really want the egg white to get really foamy.
