Puerto Rican Haze

If you ever find yourself in a spot where the world feels set against you, close your eyes, and imagine you are sitting on a white sand beach. Then open your eyes, and proceed to make yourself a strong, white rum-based Puerto Rican Haze…
This following recipe is for 1 cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Puerto Rican White Rum of choice
  • 1 oz brandy
  • ½ oz gin
  • 2 oz freshly-squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz freshly-squeezed orange juice
  • ½ oz Orgeat
  • ¼ oz simple syrup
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • Lime wedge, as garnish

Instructions 

  • Combine all of the ingredients (minus the lime wedge garnish) in a large shaker tin with ice.
  • Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
  • Strain the contents into a chilled rocks glass, with three or four small cubes of ice.
  • Garnish with a small wedge of fresh lime.

Notes

I prefer this cocktail to be on the drier side, although if you are looking for something sweeter and less aggressive, you can always substitute the white rum for something like a spiced coconut rum and increase the quantity of simple syrup.
