Dreams of Cointreau

I was first introduced to Cointreau, the orange-flavored sweet liqueur, in my early 20’s. It works wonderfully as a cocktail ingredient, especially when paired with freshly-squeezed orange juice and a few dashes of aromatic orange bitters. I’ve seen folks who drink it on the rocks, by itself. This recipe includes some calvados and lemon juice as well.
This following recipe is for 1 cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Cointreau
  • ½ oz Calvados
  • ½ oz freshly-squeezed Orange Juice
  • ½ oz freshly-squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of Orange bitters
  • 1 wheel of fresh Orange, as garnish

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients (minus the Orange wheel garnish) in a large shaker tin with ice.
  • Shake for 15 seconds.
  • Strain the contents into a chilled martini glass.
  • Garnish with an orange wheel, floated on top of the cocktail.

Notes

Add in some simple syrup if you want this cocktail to be a bit sweeter, although I think there is enough sweetness here from the Cointreau and orange juice. But you do you!
