How to Make the Perfect Chicken Parmesan

If you’re craving comfort food, look no further than chicken parmesan. This Italian dish features breaded chicken that’s smothered in marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese to finish it off. It can be served over pasta or with a side salad to add some fresh greens to the mix! To make the perfect chicken parmesan, follow these steps…

Prep Work
Chicken parmesan is one of those dishes that require a bit of prep work. If you’re pressed for time, make sure to ask your butcher if they can cut your chicken breasts in half lengthwise. This will save you some chopping at home and can be done while you’re picking up all of your ingredients. Also, remember that cooking times will vary based on how thick or thin your chicken is.

Ingredients
-1 chicken breast per person you are cooking for
-1/2 the number of eggs for the amount of chicken (i.e. if you are making 2 chicken breasts, 1 egg)
-One cup of bread crumbs of your choice (we suggest panko)
-1/2 cup of parmesan cheese
-3 tablespoons of flour
– A slice of mozzarella for every piece of chicken
-A jar of marinara/pasta sauce
-Salt and pepper to taste

Preparing and Cooking The Chicken
The best thing you can do for chicken parmesan is to use fresh, quality chicken breasts. This dish works well with boneless and skinless, but you can use what you have available. Season your chicken on both sides using salt and pepper. Pan fry your cut-up chicken in a shallow layer of olive oil over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until it is done.

Directions for Chicken Parmesan
1. With a sharp knife, cut chicken breasts into slices about half an inch thick.
2. Then prepare breading station with two plates. The first plate should have whisked eggs. The second plate should have panko crumbs and parmesan cheese.
3. Evenly coat each piece of chicken with flour, salt, and pepper.
4. Dredge the chicken in the egg mixture, then the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for all chicken breasts.
5. Fill a skillet with about an inch of oil, heat it over medium heat.
6. Pan fry your chicken, cook both sides for about 3 minutes.
6. Place your chicken on a lined baking sheet, top with marinara sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.
7. In your 400-degree oven, place the cookie sheet in the oven for about 15 minutes. For the last 2 minutes, you can turn the oven on broil (make sure to closely watch it). The internal chicken temperature should be 165 degrees.
8. If you’re going to serve these over pasta, heat some water on a stove until it boils.
9. Pour in your desired amount of pasta and cook according to package directions.
10. After pasta is done cooking, pour 1/2 cup of spaghetti sauce over top and mix together so that everything is coated evenly.11. Serve while it is hot!
