Maple Pepper Bacon

On many tables, bacon is an essential element for a full breakfast. If you look around, you can find smoked bacon, apple-cinnamon bacon (yes, really!), and chipotle-lime bacon, just to name a few. This recipe spruces up your everyday bacon with an indulgence, adding maple syrup and pepper.

Ingredients

  • 10 strips thick (smoked, uncured bacon**)
  • cup Grade A pure maple syrup (amber or dark)
  • ½ tsp cracked pepper (or more to taste)

Instructions

  • Set your oven to 400F
  • Get out a baking sheet and line it with parchment (this keeps the bacon from sticking and makes for faster cleanup)
  • Lay the bacon piece by piece on the parchment (not touching)
  • Bake it for about 15 minutes (it won’t be quite done yet)
  • Remove the sheet from the oven
  • Pour off the fat (carefully) or transfer the paper to a new baking sheet. You want to get rid of the fat.
  • Mix the maple syrup and brown sugar together thoroughly
  • Drizzle the syrup on the bacon (½ on each side)
  • Sprinkle evenly with black pepper
  • Cook the bacon again for 20 minutes
  • After 10 minutes, turn the bacon over
  • When the syrup is bubbly and the bacon is cooked through, it’s ready Cool
  • Remove from the parchment**
  • Serve!
