On many tables, bacon is an essential element for a full breakfast. If you look around, you can find smoked bacon, apple-cinnamon bacon (yes, really!), and chipotle-lime bacon, just to name a few. This recipe spruces up your everyday bacon with an indulgence, adding maple syrup and pepper.
- 10 strips thick (smoked, uncured bacon**)
- ⅓ cup Grade A pure maple syrup (amber or dark)
- ½ tsp cracked pepper (or more to taste)
Set your oven to 400F
Get out a baking sheet and line it with parchment (this keeps the bacon from sticking and makes for faster cleanup)
Lay the bacon piece by piece on the parchment (not touching)
Bake it for about 15 minutes (it won’t be quite done yet)
Remove the sheet from the oven
Pour off the fat (carefully) or transfer the paper to a new baking sheet. You want to get rid of the fat.
Mix the maple syrup and brown sugar together thoroughly
Drizzle the syrup on the bacon (½ on each side)
Sprinkle evenly with black pepper
Cook the bacon again for 20 minutes
After 10 minutes, turn the bacon over
When the syrup is bubbly and the bacon is cooked through, it’s ready Cool
Remove from the parchment**
Serve!
